The Science Association of Nigeria (SAN) was founded in 1958 and registered as a professional body in 1967 under the Act, Cap. 98 of The Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Association was inaugurated at a Conference held at the University College, Ibadan on Thursday 18th December, 1958 at 5.15pm.The major objective of the Association is to foster the pursuit and understanding of Science especially in Nigeria. Science and Science education have come a long way through the activities of SAN, the umbrella organization for all Scientists in the country.
The Association’s policy is not only to encourage research, but also to encourage science teaching in schools and generally to promote the training of scientists. It also disseminates result of scientific work both to scientists and laymen.
The Association holds Annual Conferences where Scientific papers are read and discussed. These Annual Conferences, which last three or four days, are held in various parts of Nigeria. In addition, local meetings often of a more specialized nature, are held during the year.
